Web Site Traffic - Web Site Traffic Statistics are Valuable Information I

Your web site traffic statistics are a much ignored and overlooked property of your site. Without knowledge of how much traffic you are getting, and how long they stay on your web site, you cannot possibly optimize your internet business to maximize your income.

Traffic statistics can tell you not only how much traffic has visited your site, but from where it came; from which search engines, blogs or article or site directories. They can tell you what pages on your sites you traffic landed on, how long they stayed, and from what page they left. Just imagine the benefits that information can give you.

First of all, how many visitors are you getting each day, each week and each month? You can use that as a base standard for future improvement. Without that information you can never tell how effective any optimization you carry out or changes you make to your website has been. You have nothing to measure to determine that. With a statistics package you have.

The search engines that are providing you with most traffic is useful information to have, since you can use that to optimize your site to the requirements of the poorer performing ones, or alternatively improve your web site to make it even friendlier to that which is providing you with most traffic.

If you have statistics on the keyword phrases being used by visitors to get to your web site, then you can use that information to make each page even more attractive to those using these search terms. That can not only increase your traffic, but increase it to different pages on your web site.

If you know what pages your visitors land on most, you can put your opt-in form on those pages, and use them to offer the information that you most want to. It is extremely useful to know those pages that your visitors are finding first. That information can be used to increase your email list significantly, or to offer your sales pitch on your products.

Just as important is to find out how long they stay on each page, and from which pages they exit your web site. If the average stay on a page is only 15 seconds, you are not going to sell very much. However, you now have the information to make changes and improvements to these exit pages, and persuade your visitors to stay rather than to leave. Many stats simply tell you how many visitors you have had. That’s not much use to you if the majority eave after 10 -15 seconds!
