Just How Important Is Site Traffic Analysis?
Although site traffic analysis is not something you should worry about, you should definitely be familiar with it. The whole reason for creating a website is to attract attention to your business or product. Without site traffic analysis, you won't be able to know whether your traffic-boosting strategies are increasing sales. Analysis reports can go a long way to help you figure out where your site is lacking. Without proper analysis, you'll never know how effective your site is or get to the bottom of your site traffic issues.
Now that you've decided that site traffic analysis is a good thing, you have to figure out just what you would like to know about your site's numbers. For one, you have to decide if you want just a free visitor counter -- or if you would like to get something more intensive. Both StatCounter.com and ShinyStat.com offer free invisible web trackers. There is a caveat to the ShinyStat counter, though -- it is free only for non-profit use. They do have a 7.33 Euro/month counter, called the ShinyStat Pro, which will give 40 ranking reports per month. The Business version -- for 17.50 Euro/month -- will give you 90 ranking reports per month, search engine positioning, and other benefits.
Some site traffic analysis needs can't be solved with a simple hit counter. You might have to purchase software to get more detailed results. One example is OneStat.com -- software that tracks search engines, online commerce and ad campaigns. It also monitors your website 24/7 and lets you know about any downtime by alerting you that visitors can't access your site. When it comes to websites, the trick is to work smarter, not harder.
Google Analytics is a free site analysis tool that provides access to information about traffic that arrives at your site. Google also offers consulting services and support packages to optimize the software, but these options may not be necessary if you're comfortable with site traffic analysis. You'll easily see how effective your site traffic driving efforts have panned out.
